I finally finished this piece yesterday. After a heat wave and a Lupus wave, I’m back in my studio and attempting to get caught up on my creative self. I love how this turned out with the hat and the chains… Here’s some close ups shots.
Feathers, bling, and gears… oh my!
Texture paste, foils, lava medium and gorgeous layers of paints.
All that I have left to do is a add a hanger on the back and it’s good to go. Whatcha think? This is my first true Steampunk art piece and I had a blast creating it.
As it happens lately the creative juices flow up into my fingertips and I can’t resist the urge to paint my nails…. So here’s a tiny cocktail of Covergirl Outlast Nail Polish in Pina Colada… SO Summery!
Gonna paint the sky red tonight. I hope your day of celebrating this great countries freedom is as wonderful as mine!
God Bless America!
For Christmas several years ago I received some coffee syrups in this box… as always I’m on the lookout for unusual objects to alter into art and this box … as ugly as it was is perfect. I spray painted it pink a while back and just dug it out to make some glam art for my gallery wall. So join me as I attempt to covert an sows-ear- ugly- old box into a silk-purse-work-of-art.
Although not quite done I’m sharing anyway. Here’s a but of Steampunkery for ye.
I’ll be finishing this lil ditty up over the weekend. And so far I’m super satisfied with how my first steamy attempt at punk has turned out.
Oh yeah! Check out these BAD BOYS! Uber texture goodness. It’s like medium grit sandpaper on your nails. It’s gorgeous and fun… a but unexpected and not too over-the-top. This would totally rock on the tips of your toes too! Put a lil suga in your life! Calorie free too!
Ooohh La La… Oh how I love texture and color. I snapped this photo several days ago… I’m almost done with this painting. I thought I was finished yesterday but this morning while sitting here pondering it I got inspired… so I’m not yet done.
I took a break yesterday to grow my indoor garden…
And glam myself up a bit.
My nails are Wet N Wild’s Undercover…I Love the megalast® polish line. It’s got a professional brush for an awesome manicure and it’s fortified with staying power. A must have so I have more time for art…
The flower is made of muslin and a vintage button. I’m growing more flowers and don’t even have to water!
This lil’ fella speaks for himself. He pretty much dictated himself into creation. I was just his vessel.
I used everything from vintage sheet music to feathers on this piece. Stencils, pearls, precut trim, hemp cord, watch parts, decorative tape, gold foil, stickers, paints galore, and beeswax.
Here you can see the textures of the wax, foil, gears, and watch parts. This turned out deliciously and smell oh so sweetly of honey with the beeswax on it. Good enough to tweet!
Playing with modeling paste. I’m using a 5.5’ gesso board for this assemblage. I’m going a bit Steampunk here. I bought some gear stencils a while back and just drug them out this week. I started this by topping the board with vintage text pages circa 1946. Then I added some green paint along with some metallic copper. Next I used modeling paste to layer the gear pattern on with. Now I’m going to go back in and work some magic on the background with more color and shading. I’ll add some points of interest and then dress up the top hat with bling, ribbons, gears, feathers and/or whatnots.
This is quite different for me so it’s a learning process. I hope you come back and check in to see what I’ve learned. I’m always happy to share my process!
Have a happy Friday peeps!
I started with an 8×8 wooden plank and layered it with vintage text pages, collaging papers, stencils, and layers of paints… using glaze to allow colors from behind to show through.
Then I really started having fun… using several of my favorite summery colors I started stenciling and adding color and depth to the background. I used black hemp to make a “branch” for the bird to perch on. I used vintage sheet music for the sparrow and will be adding many more layers of background color and texture. I just wanted to show you that the bird is in da house!
And I just couldn’t help adding some summer to my fingertips as well….
How pretty is that!? I’m really loving this color. It wears awesomely and adds such a joyful “noise” to my fingers that I smile each time I look at them.
This is Sally Hansen’s Xtreme wear in Mint Sorbet with a topcoat of Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri Top Coat.
And I’m ready for the weekend!
Repurposed ceramic tile trivets from the dollar store.
Wires, ribbons, and rhinestones are just the tip of the iceberg on these tiles. I used one of my craft mirrors and some string pearls to create this standing mirror. I added to the mirror by using a white rub on and this totally reminds me of a vanity table mirror I had as a little girl.
Today I’m starting a new painting with a bird as the subject. I’m going to be bees-waxing this one and I’m really looking forward to firing up my melting pot and relaxing to the aroma therapy of melted beeswax as I paint.
Happy June to you all.. I hope your summer is inspired!
You know those long boards that are great for putting hooks on? This is one of those. I turned it into wall art. I’m in love with how this turned out. The DH likes it too. He’s tempted to hang it in the living room. Luckily it’s too small for any of the walls he’s tried it on so I’m keeping this puppy brother for my bedroom gallery wall.
I started by painting the board black around the edges and adding vintage text pages for my background base. Then I did this…
Paints, decorative napkin and Glimmer Mist.
The pink flower center is actually colored hot glue. I used texture mediums to help build the flowers. Inside the center is Black Lava texture… and the white around the center is white opaque flakes… both mediums are from Liquitex. I opted not to use the pewter beads in the very center, add added jute stems with a few glass beads instead.
For adding a soft bit of color on this piece instead of using paints I used pastels.
Some of the cheapest surfaces to paint on that aren’t free are found at the dollar stores. They most always have 6×6” ceramic tile trivets. Simple paint over them with gesso or collage your own backgrounds on. I opted for black napkins crumpled and adhered over the tiles after painting them black. I did a wash of Metallic pearl white and a smearing of gold glaze before starting anything. As I’m currently working on art for my bedroom gallery wall I thought dress up would be fun.
I found some templates online and …
Started creating… I’ve a ways to go with this one yet.. but I’ve at least chosen my dress for the ball.
And my bustier’ for the bedroom. I’m working on giving this mirror more bling and adding more interest to the background.. along with adding yumminess to the wearable’s.
Check back soon to see the progress.
What are you wearing to the ball?
