The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

The Ugly…

For Christmas several years ago I received some coffee syrups in this box… as always I’m on the lookout for unusual objects to alter into art and this box … as ugly as it was is perfect. I spray painted it pink a while back and just dug it out to make some glam art for my gallery wall. So join me as I attempt to covert an sows-ear- ugly- old box into a silk-purse-work-of-art.

The Good…

Although not quite done I’m sharing anyway. Here’s a but of Steampunkery for ye.

I’ll be finishing this lil ditty up over the weekend. And so far I’m super satisfied with how my first steamy attempt at punk has turned out.

The Bad…

Oh yeah! Check out these BAD BOYS! Uber texture goodness. It’s like medium grit sandpaper on your nails. It’s gorgeous and fun… a but unexpected and not too over-the-top. This would totally rock on the tips of your toes too! Put a lil suga in your life! Calorie free too!

Steampunk Sparrow

This lil’ fella speaks for himself. He pretty much dictated himself into creation. I was just his vessel.

I used everything from vintage sheet music to feathers on this piece. Stencils, pearls, precut trim, hemp cord, watch parts, decorative tape, gold foil, stickers, paints galore, and beeswax.

Here you can see the textures of the wax, foil, gears, and watch parts. This turned out deliciously and smell oh so sweetly of honey with the beeswax on it. Good enough to tweet!

Glam and Chic

Repurposed ceramic tile trivets from the dollar store.

Wires, ribbons, and rhinestones are just the tip of the iceberg on these tiles. I used one of my craft mirrors and some string pearls to create this standing mirror. I added to the mirror by using a white rub on and this totally reminds me of a vanity table mirror I had as a little girl.

Today I’m starting a new painting with a bird as the subject. I’m going to be bees-waxing this one and I’m really looking forward to firing up my melting pot and relaxing to the aroma therapy of melted beeswax as I paint.

Happy June to you all.. I hope your summer is inspired!

All Dolled Up

Some of the cheapest surfaces to paint on that aren’t free are found at the dollar stores. They most always have 6×6” ceramic tile trivets.  Simple paint over them with gesso or collage your own backgrounds on. I opted for black napkins crumpled and adhered over the tiles after painting them black. I did a wash of Metallic pearl white and a smearing of gold glaze before starting anything. As I’m currently working on art for my bedroom gallery wall I thought dress up would be fun.

I found some templates online and …

Started creating… I’ve a ways to go with this one yet.. but I’ve at least chosen my dress for the ball.

And my bustier’ for the bedroom.  I’m working on giving this mirror more bling and adding more interest to the background.. along with adding yumminess to the wearable’s.

Check back soon to see the progress.

What are you wearing to the ball?

Belly Dancer

This Belly Dancer ATC marks day 29 of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month ATC series. Using lavender, black, and gold with a black/purple glitter background this card struts it’s stuff. I’ll be working on tomorrow’s card tonight as I have an appointment for some blood work and my mammogram tomorrow… Oh yeah… flat as a pancake time.

I’m way behind today on everything but it was well worth it. My parents came to visit and we had a great time. I’ll be going to their place after the election to play with paints with Mom and more than likely hitting our favorite variety store.

Christmas is coming up soon peeps… whatcha making everyone? Do share!

Tata for now. I have dinner to make and mail to read. Winking smile

Beauties of Bangalore

If you love bling you’re got to love today’s entry in my BCA Month series. Red, gold, black, and bling! LOVE it. I used everything I could get my hands on. The card itself is covered in a gold foil candy wrapper. You can get packs of them in the baking/candy isle in craft and variety stores. (They come in lots of colors as well!)

The body is cut from the inside of a Yogi Tea box. It looks just like the Henna tattoos that the women of India are famous for. Truly beautiful and artful. I would love to try that form of art.

Next I dug through my boxes of embellishments and found all these delish goodies. Enjoy the shimmers and I’ll see you tomorrow from something from the opposite side of the creative box.

Glitter Explosion

While adding the finishing touches on today’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month ATC I grabbed for some old school glitter glue I haven’t used in forever. I noticed that the glue wasn’t shaking to the tip so I squeezed the bottle and it was extremely brittle from age and it just exploded! I haven’t touched any of it … I’m letting it dry and I’ll be using the glitter litter for something clever down the road which should be lots of fun.

Button Up! This card is fully loaded with glitter and sparkly and topped off with buttons to fasten to keep you warm through the icy winter. Lots of gold and pink and brown. Sweet at pie!

I Need Chocolate

I Need Chocolate

You’ve had those days when nothing will satisfy you like a big chunk of chocolate just like me I bet. There’s something medicinal and soothing about chocolate. It’s one of God’s magic remedies. It’s tastes awesome, is actually good for you and it’s sooths the savage beasties in all of us.  This painting expresses just how much this gal needs her chocolate fix! Thankfully she’s got a big bar ready for unwrapping. This started with layers of cream and red, then I added a wine berry color wash and started layering in colors that would go well with the paper I had chosen for her dress. Of course we had to put some brown in here as after all… chocolate is the deepest of browns. I used gold metallic paper to punch some hearts from to layer over stenciled brown hearts. I used gold leaf to make the piece more cohesive with the use of the gold hearts and the gold wrapper in her candy bar. The edges are dabbed with a rich and thick gold paint that helps to add extra texture and richness. Now, If you’ll excuse me… I hear some chocolate calling me from the kitchen!

I‘ve been working on another set of five 4×4″ mini paintings to put on Etsy and take downtown. I’ve made nearly 40 since I’ve been back at painting after my respite from my ankle recuperation. I’m off today again to the specialist for another appointment. I can hobble pretty well with my shoes on, but barefoot is another story. I’m concerned about the cost of another surgery and the whole process of knowing what I’d have to go through again. I’ll be praying on it. This little sweet pea is covered in the golden glory of God. Who else can create flowers of gold? The collage paper I used for her dress is from a bar of soap given out at Christmas time by a local health food store as a gift. I thought the paper was so pretty and smelled SO good that I had to add it to the painting. The painting grew from their. I used stencils, rub ons, mini stickers, black lava texture, gold leafing, I even used fabric paints. I’ll be back to creating after my Dr’s appointment today. And yes, the AC is going strong, it’s going to be another hot day, oh how I miss the rain! Today’s 2sday again and that means Toy Time! This week’s show-&-tell is a family favorite and always brings a smile or laugh. It’s my Pig Nose! Just looking at the picture of it here makes me giggle. Until tomorrow.. keep your nose clean!

Queen of Hearts

Queen of Hearts

Having still more fun with ATCs and Alice in Wonderland. Doing my version of the Queen of Hearts was a lot of fun. Who doesn’t love hearts! I LOVED this character in the movie. She played her part wonderfully. She was bold, imaginative, and funny. This was done on a precut illustration board ATC. First I drew the Queen and as always the first thing I do is the face. I used chalk pencils for her face and her hair then did a wash with red paint to add more vibrance. I used felt pens, microns, rubberstamps with acrylic paints, Zig painty metallic pen, tiny little heart stickers, gold leafing, and liquid appliqué. I finished off the edges of the card with DecoArt Elegant Finish in Emperor’s Gold. I LOVE the color of this paint.
I think I’ll be doing the Mad Hatter next, but first I’ll be playing with a drawing a did while resting my ankle on fluffy pillows on the couch. Here’s the drawing. It’s done on watercolor paper. I scanned it and darkened the lines in Photoshop so you could see it better. The actually drawing’s lines are very faint that they barely show. I’m looking forward to playing with this over the weekend. I need the distraction to keep my mind busy while I wait for next week and my blood work to get done… Then the waiting begins… As they say ~ Art Saves! Happy TGIF to all of you and Prayers please if you can spare some. Thanks and God Bless!
